Do you ever struggle to find new activities that both you and your family can enjoy? While my daughter was home for winter break, I wanted to visit someplace new that we could all enjoy as a family. During times like these, I try to think like a local and discover what is waiting for us right outside our doorstep!
We live in Monmouth County, NJ and I recently picked up a copy of the triCityNews. There, an ad for The Herbary at Bear Creek Farm caught my eye. The 15-acre property is located in Howell, NJ, not far from Route 195. I figured this was a great opportunity to check it out.
The Herbary At Bear Creek Farm
The minute you step out of your car, you are greeted by a stunning barn containing a beautiful array of gardening and gift items. The barn was built in the same style as the barns of Amish Country in Lancaster County PA.
A few steps away is another cottage that serves as a cafe where we sat and enjoyed freshly brewed coffee. The friendly woman behind the counter told us they even serve lunch items from some of our favorite Asbury Park restaurants.
The heated greenhouse, filled with houseplants and succulents, was so inviting! You can even rent the greenhouse for private events. This has me dreaming of throwing a future party!
Truly this was the cleanest farm I have ever strolled! They sell harvested honey and fresh farm eggs from these beautiful hens:
And then there were these cuties:
We were struck by how gorgeous the grounds were on a cold, January day and we look forward to visiting the farm again in the spring!
Be A Local
After visiting Bear Creek Farm, I was reminded of a quote by Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz:
“if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any farther than my own back yard because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with.”
I love discovering nearby family-friendly events or venues not too far from home. What places do you like to visit near your hometown?
