With the holidays approaching, I wanted to try my hand at some easy DIY Christmas crafts. I am not a “crafty” person but I have found the secret to turning out fabulous results!
The secret is the Cricut, an amazing electronic cutting machine that allows you to cut out or draw intricate designs that can be used for all sorts of projects such as scrapbooking, home decor, and card making. With the Cricut, the possibilities are endless and it is easy to use whether you are an experienced crafter or a beginner crafter, like me.

Easy DIY Christmas Blanket
Today I’ll be describing how I decorated an inexpensive plaid blanket using my Cricut Explore Air. However, the same process was used to decorate the gift bucket, T-shirt, and wine set shown in the featured image.
Supplies
- Cricut (Explore Air, Explore Air 2, Maker)
- Weeding Tool
- Standard grip mat
- White Iron-On Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Cricut EasyPress or Iron
- Blanket
Instructions
- Measure the area where you would like to place a design on the blanket (I decided on 5.25″).
- Open up Cricut Design Space (design software that comes free with every Cricut), create a new project, and insert your desired image (I chose a snowflake from one of Cricut’s free images).
- Size the image and cut your design using iron-on vinyl (make sure you mirrored the image and placed the vinyl shiny side down on your mat).
- Once cut, weed your design (remove the excess material) with your weeding tool.
- Add a piece of transfer tape to your design and remove the entire design from the mat.
- Preheat your iron or the EasyPress to the proper temperature (refer to Cricut’s interactive EasyPress guide).
- Iron the area you would like the design to be for a few seconds.
- Place design onto the blanket and apply heat.
- Flip and press the other side of the design.
- Turn back over and slowly peel off the transfer tape.
Enjoy your decorated blanket or give it as a gift this holiday season!
