Dry skin brushing
This is a quick and easy “spa treatment” that you can do for yourself at home. Dry skin brushing removes dead skin, increases circulation, and can help reduce the appearance of cellulite. It also stimulates your lymphatic system which helps flush toxins from your body. Although you can dry brush your skin daily, I tend to do it once a week or if I feel my body needs a little extra TLC.
How To
Always brush dry skin, preferably before your shower or bath. Using a natural-bristle brush and long strokes, start at the bottom of your feet and brush up each leg. Then brush from your hands toward your shoulders. Finish by brushing your torso with upward strokes. You may want to brush each area several times.
Remember
- always brush toward your heart which is best for circulation
- don’t use the brush on your face as it may be too harsh
- always brush dry skin
- apply firm pressure but it should not be painful
- store your brush in a dry place
Detox Bath
Soaking in an epsom salt bath, which is actually magnesium sulfate, is beneficial because it allows magnesium to be absorbed through the skin. Many people are unaware of the importance of magnesium as an essential nutrient. Among its many benefits, magnesium can soothe achey muscles, provide itch relief from sunburn, and may even help ease anxiety.
How To
Just add 1-2 cups of Epsom salts to your bathtub while running warm water. You may also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. I like to use lavender oil for relaxation and eucalyptus oil for clearing my sinuses. Soak for about 20 minutes.

Oil Pulling
A clean and healthy mouth is important for good health. Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic practice that is said to strengthen gums, whiten teeth, reduce bacteria in the mouth, and help improve bad breath. While it is not a replacement for regular teeth cleaning and dental visits, it can still be a beneficial addition to your dental health care.
How To
In the morning or the evening, place 1 teaspoon of either coconut, sesame, or safflower oil in your mouth. I like to use unrefined, organic coconut oil. Gently swish the oil in your mouth (all around your teeth and gums) for about 10 – 20 minutes. When the time is up, spit out the oil into a wastebasket or a paper towel. The color of the oil will have changed from clear or yellow into a milky white color. Then, brush and floss your teeth. That’s it!
Remember
- 10 – 20 minutes may seem like a long time, but if you do something else while you are swishing it around in your mouth, the time will go faster
- do not swallow the oil
- do not spit out the oil into your sink since it can harden and clog your drain
